GB ANNOUNCE CHARITY PARTNER AHEAD OF SoN

FIM Speedway of Nations Champions Great Britain are delighted to unveil a new charity partnership as they prepare to defend their title in Poland this week.

Robert Lambert, Dan Bewley and Tom Brennan go for Gold at Torun in a bid to secure a third Speedway of Nations Gold in the space of five years, following their superb victory in Manchester last year.

GB Speedway Team have this year linked up with Norfolk Blood Bikes, a charitable organisation based in Dereham.

The charity was formed in 2011 to fulfil the need for an out-of-hours emergency transport service for blood, samples and other items, working between the region’s three primary and five community hospitals, and their supporting laboratories.

Made up of over 100 passionate and committed volunteers, the service they provide focuses on the transportation of essential items needed for the medical or surgical treatment of patients.

They operate between the hours of 7pm-7am, and during the daytime at weekends, with a fleet of 17 liveried motorcycles and seven cars to assist with transportation, which is especially significant in the county of Norfolk which has no motorways.

The service is carried out at no cost to the NHS, but it does cost around £5,000 per month to maintain.

Independent Trustee Marc Back said: “The volunteers at Norfolk Blood Bikes are delighted collaborate with the GB Speedway Team as charity partners.

“Timing is everything and for us, making sure that life-saving medical supplies make it to their destination, is just the same as crossing the finish line first.

“Like every winning team, we also rely on the combined effort from our incredible people and the additional boost from our supporters. It feels like good company!”

GB Speedway Team managing director Rob Painter said: “We’ve been hugely impressed with the work done by Norfolk Blood Bikes and their dedication to providing an essential, life-saving service.

“We’re proud to have them on board as our official Charity Partners, and we will be delighted to be carrying their name into a massive week of racing as we look to secure the Speedway of Nations title once again.”
